Loose snus or lös snus is the traditional form of Swedish snus going back hundreds of years. The snus comes loose in the can and is used by compressing the desired amount with your fingers and inserting between the upper lip and gum.

The compressed snus (known as a pinch, a prilla, or a pris) can also be formed with syringe-like tools to avoid getting tobacco juice on your fingers.
